Our church has seating. I like it. Most stand thoughout the service, but if you wish you can sit down.I have been in many Orthodox churches over the past seven years. Stand, sit, it is what makes that congregation feel that it is in the mode of worship. Face it, the Orthodox church here in the US is placed right in the middle of Western Civilization. To sit at times does not make one less a Christian, who says that the United States Orthodox must follow what is done in Siberia. The culture in which the church finds itself should compromise on custom, not on the important things , the belief in God through the Orthodox faith. The mission is to bring Christ to the nations, through that Orthodox faith. I find some Orthodox churches to be like my country club, snobby, better than thou, let me show you what type of Orthodox I am. That is a hopeless situation, and far from what Christ said, in the great commission. We compromise on language, Orthodoxy always goes into the cultural vernacular, why not posture. This is a non issue, another meaningless division, again a slavish attempt to show that one's posture in worship is more important than the worship of God itself. How very sad. I find that some convert priests try to be more orthodox than cradle born. Can't we just let this little matter go.
