It should be noted here that the several Orthodox Churches do not maintain the historical list of Patriarchs for Rome as was done though 1054. These ancient lists were always kept by each of the churches - when a new patriarch was elevated his name would be submitted to all the other churches. Within Orthodox this is still done. Note, the notices sent by the OCA to all other Orthodox Churches about the current retirement of its primate and the vote coming this July. I think that is on the OCA website. The Roman Church does not recognize officially any of the Orthodox Patriarchs due to the fact that they have not submitted to the supreme authority of the Pope. One of the articles promulgated by the RCA after the failure of the Florentine reunion 1450 +/- stated that no Orthodox bishop would be recognized as legitimate until reuinted. The prayers of the German RC ChurchBishops contains the petition that the Orthodox thoughout the world be converted.
