Hello fellow brethren. I believe it is unfair to say that we Coptic Orthodox "separated from the Orthodox" churches, when in fact we hold fast to the earliest traditions in the Apostolic faith. Are we not called the Coptic (Egyptian) Orthodox Church? Are we not the church with such great fathers as Saint Anthony the Great (founder of monasticism), Saint Athanasius (who is also called the 'Defender of Orthodoxy'), Saint Cyril, and Saint Macarius (among a myriad of others)? Also, look deeper into the first three ecumenical councils, Nicea, Constantinople, and Ephesus, and you should discover that the main defenders of the True Faith came from the Egyptian fathers. Additionally, at the first council of Chalcedon, 451 AD (which was of mainly political concern), the Egyptian and Syrian patriarchs were forbidden attendance due to conflict between the sees of Constantinople and Rome. Byzantine troops were used in attempting to install melkite patriarchs from Constantinople to take the place of the rightly enthroned Egyptian patriarchs. We are the Coptic Orthodox Church, founded by St. Mark, the See of Alexandria and all Africa. We are Orthodox in our faith.
