Very interesting post Gordius, however, I can tell from your writing you are an intelligent individual and would appreciate reading a few texts about Orthodoxy, especially it's theology. I could recommend more than a few books for you to read, and a number of web sites for you to go to, but here are just two of those that I sincerely believe you will enjoy. One is "St Gregory Palamas as Hagiorite". The is a text written by Metropolitan of Nafpaktos Hierotheos Vlachos, about the life of St Gregory Palamas, a great saint of the Orthodox church, and the web site of www.romanity.org were you can read the texts of Fr. Romanides, a great theologian of our time. Both the book and web site provide an awakening that should be experienced by all Orthodox Christians. Also, you might consider "Gregory Palamas, The Triads" published by Paulist Press, as a preface to the first book I mentioned. If there is one thing Orthodoxy provides that no other professed Christian church cannot, is the depth of it's teaching through the understanding expressed by the Fathers of the Church. There is abolutely never anything superficial about it. Good luck and God Bless.
